When you start working with PDF documents, one of the first things you’ll probably want to know is how to add text to a PDF on your Mac. This function is most useful when you have to fill out a CV with lots of fields or your professor asks you to assist with conducting a research survey. Adding text is also essential if you are filling out non-interactive PDF forms (tax returns, tests, etc.). We suggest downloading a free trial of PDF Expert to demonstrate how smoothly and efficiently adding text can be.

There is a bunch of PDF software solutions out there to accomplish this task. The most noted one is Preview which comes pre-installed on your Mac. Here is how it works.

  1. Open your PDF in Preview and click the Markup Toolbar on the main toolbar.
  1. Click T in the markup toolbar. In a second, a text box appears on your PDF. Click or double-click on it to change the text or type a new one. You can also move the text box if necessary. Simply click on it to grab the box and drag it wherever you want it.

Preview also allows you to change the background of the text box or add borders to it. Besides, the text itself is absolutely editable. Click Text Style to modify the font, color, and size of your text.

However, in many cases when you need to do more than that. For example, to fix a typo in an existing text or compress the size of your PDF before you send it by email. That's where PDF Expert comes in handy.
