- Get PDF Expert and open your document.
- Go to the Edit PDF menu at the top left of the screen.
- Select Header and Footer > Add Page Numbers.
- Adjust the pages range as well as the numbering format, font, and layout.

- Open your document in PDF Expert.
- Open the Edit PDF menu at the top left of the screen.
- Select Header and Footer > Add Bates Numbers.
- Under Format Options, you can fill in the Prefix and Suffix fields to display the text before or after the Bates number.
- Under Number of Digits, you can specify how many digits make up your Bates number.
- Under Layout and Font Options, you can customize the appearance and position of your Bates numbers.
- Click Apply to add Bates numbering.
Logic Page Numbering: Label Pages as Needed
You can often face a challenge with mislabeled PDFs, especially in scanned documents. PDF Expert’s logic page numbering helps solve this issue and accurately label documents. Here’s how:
- "Label This Page Forward as 1,2,3,4..." – Start from any page and number subsequent pages with Arabic numerals like 1, 2, 3, and so on.
- "Label This Page Forward as i, ii, iii, iv,..." – Begin from any page and label the following pages with Roman numerals like i, ii, iii.
- "Label as Cover" – Designate any page as "Cover".

- Open your PDF.
- Click the Page Thumbnails icon in the upper left corner (or press CMD + 4).
- Select your labeling preference from the context menu. Note: These options are only available when a single page is selected. You can always Undo or Redo these Logic Page Numbering actions

- Open your PDF > click Edit in the top main menu > select Page Labels.
- Open your PDF > right-click anywhere on the page > select Page Labels.
